The NewBec

I'm not who I was.

If you REALLY want to know…

I haven’t spoken much about my supposed narcolepsy lately.

There are a few reasons for that… one is that I’m waiting for a 2nd opinion specialist to accept me (which may take months) and I don’t really have any more “official” answers to share. Another is that, not to be rude, but I get weary of repeating myself. I am so glad that people care, but it is frustrating to repeat the same thing over and over whilst knowing that most people don’t really “get it”. I mean, even the doctors and I don’t entirely “get it” since I have some different quirks about me, so I’m sure it’s even more difficult for everyone else.  Truthfully, all of this effort and repetition isn’t simpy bothersome, it physically wears me out depending on my state at the time.  So please don’t feel offended if you ask how I’m doing and I give a very short or generalized answer.  It may not appear as though I appreciate your prayers and well-wishes… I do. I’m just exhausted.

Recently, a precious friend told me about a special she recently came across on the Discovery channel regarding narcolepsy.  I found it online and through that I came across Julie Flygare’s blog.  She has some GREAT (brief and easy to watch) informative videos on a few aspects of what I deal with. So if you REALLY want to know, give them a watch! They are quite informative… and short!

I remember reading about this in psychology class in college. And also, there was a narcoleptic in an episode of Punky Brewster. Those are my only connections to narcolepsy. I do wonder now if I know people who are experiencing this but have not been diagnosed. Thanks for linking up the vids and educating us about it.

  3. Thanks, Becca! These videos were really helpful in understanding what narcolepsy is. Prayers for progress in getting accepted by the specialist and taking the next steps in treatment. I admire you for the courage to deal with it openly and for sharing your story with people (like me) who have very little knowledge of it.

Thank you so much for highlighting my awareness videos on your blog, Becca! It’s such an honor that you find these helpful for explaining your experience to others. Sending wakefulness your way, Julie

No, thank you! They are wonderful. Very straightforward and easy to understand… and short enough to not lose interest. Keep it up, please 🙂
